The International Baccalaureate Career Programme (IBCP)

At Aylesford School we are passionate about our students achieving and developing the best possible qualifications and skills to enable them to fulfil their career aspirations. It is imperative that we offer a curriculum at Key Stage 5 that prepares our students for the global economic challenges and competition that they will face throughout their working life. We are convinced that the IBCP can do just that.

The International Baccalaureate Career Programme is more than just an education. It is a programme of study that has provided a well-rounded education for post 16 students at Aylesford School since September 2017. The programme is an internationally recognised course, followed by students around the world. It seeks to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young adults who are prepared for the modern world. The programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

Pathway 3:

Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway

Pathway 3 allows students to gain experience of the world of work through a two day a week placement. It is an opportunity to develop work place skills and to prepare practically for future employment. Alongside this valuable experience the student will study a relevant Level 3 BTEC and re-take their Maths and English GCSEs if necessary.

Pathway 3 has been termed the ‘Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway’ because the aim is that the student will seamlessly progress from 6th form into an apprenticeship. This will often be at the same business as their work experience placement.

There are no minimum entry requirements for Pathway 3 although a strong desire and commitment to undertake a work experience placement supported by Aylesford School is essential. A positive work ethic and aspiration to succeed are also necessary along with a high attendance record.

Pathway 3 Business Partner – Waterloo Air Products

“Waterloo Air Products is proud to have engaged with Aylesford School and to have the opportunity to assist with student’s future career choices in this 'Year of Engineering'. The company has a wealth of knowledge both in manufacturing and the construction sector and we're delighted to be able to share this with the 'next generations'. We're particularly looking forward to providing further work experience opportunities for students in our various departments, whether technical or commercial.”

Commendation of a current Pathway 3 student

“He is a credit to his parents, the school and himself. If he is a good example of the student body at Aylesford School, then the future looks very bright indeed.”
