Key Stage 4 Curriculum 2019/2020

At Aylesford School, we are passionate about our students achieving and developing the best possible qualifications and workplace skills to enable them to fulfil their career aspirations and gain rewarding employment.  We have always encouraged our students to remain in education beyond year 11 and it is now a requirement that students will remain in full time education or training until the age of 18.

It is imperative that we offer a curriculum at Key Stage 4 that prepares our students for the economic challenges of uncertainty and competition.  We recognise that many of our students have the ability to successfully undertake a range of courses post 16, they should aspire to undertake a range of academic qualifications or equivalent vocational qualifications which will lead to higher study at University or in a tailored work-based training programme.

It is an expectation by the Government and the school that all students should achieve a grade 5 in English and Mathematics and make strong progress in 8 subjects.

Many students will also be required to achieve the Government’s English Baccalaureate standard by obtaining at least a grade 5 in English, Mathematics, Science, a humanities subject (either History or Geography) and French.  As a consequence, the subjects that your son/daughter study at Key Stage 4 might reflect this requirement.

Students will receive information regarding options in assembly on Thursday 13th June and students and parents should read this carefully and attend the Curriculum Evening on Thursday 20th June 2019 at 5.30pm before making their final decisions.

The curriculum form which will be included in the information book you receive at the curriculum evening, will need to be filled in carefully and returned by Monday 24th June 2019 to mentors.  Students will have an interview with a member of senior staff to discuss their choices in the week beginning Monday 1st July 2019.  Students will be informed of their confirmed curriculum by Monday 15th July 2019.
