Aylesford visit the Knife Angel

Aylesford visit the Knife Angel

Some of our students had a fantastic opportunity to visit the Knife Angel Monument in Rochester. This was only on show locally until 29th September however, it was something that all those who visited were very glad not to miss out on!

Students were shown into the precincts of the cathedral where the sculpture made from 100000 knives collected by England’s 43 police constabularies and turned into such an emotive piece of art. Students learnt that those that carry knives are 3 times more likely to be a victim of knife crime and the biggest misconception people believe is that by carrying a knife they will be safer.

All students then got the opportunity to sign a pledge that they will live their lives “knife free” and to see a display of knife crime victims in the Crypt. Their experiences today will all form part of a future assembly where they hope to share what they learnt and give others in the school community the chance to pledge to be “knife free”.

Mr Neeve would like to thank all students for being a real credit to the school and showing phenomenal levels of respect and compassion for the victims depicted and those that were affected by seeing the monument whilst there. Thanks must also go to Mrs Baker for the photos and Mr Thompson and Ms Stay for driving the mini buses.
